Documentation / Borders in Flux – Errant Sound, Berlin
Due to the nature of directional ultrasound speakers, the actual sound experience cannot be captured on video; the recording emphasizes peaks that differ from the live perception.

Borders are no longer just physical lines on a map; they are increasingly elusive infrastructures. “Borders in Flux” is an interactive sound installation influenced by acoustic weapons, border politics, and the control of sound. Reflecting on smart borders and acoustic control, it deals with how contemporary borders function beyond physical barriers, enforced through surveillance, biometric tracking, and sound deterrence.
Using directional ultrasound speakers and motion sensors, the installation creates invisible borders as a fragmented sonic landscape in the space where access to sound is conditional and constantly shifting. Some voices emerge and are hearable only from certain points, while others remain silenced, echoing the instability, asymmetry, and performative nature of borders.
