Exhibition / Acoustic Horizon at Relations in Place – Bärenzwinger, Berlin

Relations in Place
Opening: Thursday, November 13, 2025 | 6 – 9 PM
With live sound intervention – Acoustic Horizon by Özcan Ertek

As the final exhibition of the Handle [with] Care 2025 program, Relations in Place is an invitation to reconsider how space both shapes and is shaped by the relationships it contains. Moving beyond physical environments, the exhibition explores the complex web of social, political and cultural tensions that are embedded within these spaces.

Set in the historically charged site of a former bear pit, the exhibition reflects on the ambivalences of spatial practices. How are notions of care, power and control negotiated in space? What traces do these dynamics leave on the architecture, the movement within it and our interactions with each other?

The artworks engage with these questions through different spatial lenses: Vanessa Amoah Opoku @vaopoku & Joy Weinberger @_joyweinberger_ examine transnational homemaking in the diaspora; Özcan Ertek @ozcanertek invites visitors to attune to Berlin’s urban soundscape; and Zhenru Liang’s @zhenruliang brick sculpture emerges from a process of negotiation between the artist and the site and history of the Bärenzwinger.

Join us for the opening night on 13 November! We will raise a toast with mulled wine and enjoy a live performance by Özcan Ertek at 7 pm.

Save the date for November 15, when the exhibition’s themes will come to life through spatial exploration. Yun-Chu Liang @yunzzzuuu will invite you to share stories over tea, while the Feminist Spaces Collective @feminist_spaces leads a walk to discover traces of care in the Bärenzwinger neighborhood.
