Installation / Acoustic Horizon as part of Sonic Fragilities by Errant Sound, Floating University

On 21–22 June, “Acoustic Horizon” was listening Berlin and its environment from above at @floating.berlin with @errant.sound as part of “Sonic Fragilities - Relations in Sound and Environment.”

The horn gathered sonic fragments from the wider surroundings, the hum and sports in motion Tempelhofer Feld, Kreuzberg market rhythms, distant textures of Grunewald forest, wind corridors and passing urban life, blending them into evolving sound forms that echoed the site’s amphibious, in-between character.

“Acoustic Horizon” is an interactive sound installation that explores the acoustic relationship between humans and their environment. Through directional listening and sound mapping, the installation blurs distances — physical, emotional, ecological — inviting listeners to rethink proximity, territory, and co-existence. By rotating the horn, the audience tunes into shifting sonic constellations that move between nature and infrastructure, spontaneity and signal, foreground and horizon.

The sculptural horn acts as both instrument and sensor, scanning, translating and performing the surrounding sonic landscape. At Floating University, positioned above the grounds, it was focused to amplify the peculiar intimacy of this self-organized site: where disciplines dissolve, waterways reshape narratives, and the city can be listened to differently.
