Update / Borders in Flux
Got my ‘Meisterschüler’ degree from UdK Art and Media last Tuesday with my graduation project/presentation featuring a new interactive sound installation.
“Borders in Flux” is an interactive sound installation influenced by acoustic weapons, border politics, and the control of sound. Reflecting on smart borders, sonic weapons and acoustic control, it deals with how contemporary borders function beyond physical barriers—enforced through surveillance, biometric tracking, and sound deterrence.
Using directional ultrasound speakers and motion sensors mounted on a tower-like structure, the installation creates fragmented sonic landscape/sound zones in space where access to sound is conditional and constantly shifting. Some voices emerge and are hearable only from certain points, while others remain silenced—echoing the instability, asymmetry, and performative nature of ‘borders’.
I would like to thank Prof. Alberto de Campo, Anne Wellmer @owowelle , and the GenComp class for their valuable feedbacks, as well as my Meisterschüler committee—Prof. Thomas Arslan, Prof. Nina Fischer, Juliane Großheim, and Bruno Gola—for their evaluation of the project.
A very special thanks to @cemcakmak.works for his technical support in creative programming.
And huge thanks to @ashvinotchka , @cremebay , Ruben Bass, @stratos_bichakis @kunsf.xyz and @cihankucuk_ for their help during the setup, and to @ogsan_h2orius @miracle.yigit for their very helpful feedbacks. And also to @errant.sound for making this presentation possible.
